Technical Visit to Aerodynamics and Acoustics Facility (AAF) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)

Dear Members,

 

The Hong Kong Institute of Acoustics (HKIOA) is pleased to invite members to visit the Aerodynamics and Acoustics Facility (AAF) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), formerly known as the CLP Power Wind/Wave Tunnel Facility (WWTF) on 05 October 2024 (Saturday), 10am to 12pm. 

The AAF is one of HKUST's central research facilities, it supports local institutions and industries with their research and development needs, and houses Hong Kong's largest acoustic testing facilities, including a large anechoic chamber, a large reverberation chamber, and a novel acoustics-fluids testing platform. The Reverberation and Anechoic Chambers serve as the foundation for conducting standard acoustical assessments, including tests for sound power, sound absorption, and sound insulation. The facility not only spearheads university research but also extends specialized services to our esteemed industry collaborators. The AAF is also equipped with a Small Wind Tunnel for smaller-scale experiments, featuring a highly modifiable test section that can be adapted to a wide range of equipment and instruments. The Large Low-Speed Wind Tunnel, developed in 2019, houses an Aerodynamic Test Section and a Boundary-Layer Test Section, facilitating comprehensive General Aerospace Research and Civil Engineering Aerodynamic Testing including but not limited to structures like buildings and facades.

The visit is free of charge but is limited to 30 persons and priority will be given to HKIOA members. The application deadline is 20 September 2024 (Friday). The successful candidates will be notified separately on a first-come, first-serve basis. An electronic CPD certificate of 2 hours will be granted via email to the participants after the visit.
