Dear colleagues,

I write to cordially invite you to participate and contribute to the event SoundWalk with Silence, which will be held in the afternoon of 28 September 2013 (Saturday) as one of the events for celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Institute of Acoustics.

You may like to note that hearing-impaired students are not only suffered from poor reception of sounds, their abilities of learning language are also hindered. When language is not well-developed, not only do hearing-impaired students find it difficult to hear and speak with other people in their daily lives, the development of their reading and writing skills is also adversely impacted, thereby affecting their effectiveness of learning. Hearing-impaired students do deserve more care from our society. Against this background, the Hong Kong Institute of Acoustics has organized the “SoundWalk with Silence (有聲無聲健步行)”, with a view to raising funds for upgrading the teaching hardware/facilities of the beneficiary organization, the Lutheran School for the Deaf.

The Lutheran School for the Deaf (pls see http://www.lsd.edu.hk/index.php) was established in 1968 to create a unique campus environment with the aim of promoting an all-round development in hearing-impaired students though fostering the spirit of holistic education and caring for their diverse learning needs. Over the years, the School has been the provider of educational services that cater for the different needs of students with serious to profound hearing loss.

The event “SoundWalk with Silence (有聲無聲健步行)” aims at bringing in tangible benefits to the hearing impaired students. It will be a meaningful event in celebration of the 20thAnniversary of our Institute.  For details and enrolment, pls see the attached event flyer AND registration leaflet.

Your friends and families are welcome to join the event and please do bring along your kids. Please enrol by 25 September 2013 (Wednesday) to reserve your place by following the instructions printed on the flyer and have funs!
