Hong Kong Soundscape – A Sound Map Creation Competition
Submission of Entry Opens Today


Dear Members,
 
On behalf of the Organizing Committee and Hong Kong Institute of Acoustics (the Institute), we are pleased to announce that the Hong Kong Soundscape – A Sound Map Creation Competition has been rolled out today.
 
The Competition is the first of its kind in Hong Kong aiming to raise public awareness of local soundscape and to promote the idea of treating sound as resources and the importance of ambient sound environment. Through the Competition, we hope to educate the general public on treating sound as resources instead of waste and to generate innovative ideas of urban planning and design approach to improve the overall soundscape in Hong Kong.
 
Details are as follows:

Hong Kong Soundscape – A Sound Map Creation Competition

Theme: 1.          Urban City (城市脈搏)
-              Sounds you hear in the city
2.          Nature Scenery (自然生態)
-              Sounds you hear in nature
3.          Cultural Landscape (人文景觀)
-              Sounds you hear from Hong Kong cultural or celebrative activities during festive seasons
 
 
How to Join: Join the Competition in just three steps:
1.      Record any sound from your mobile phone or recording device in Hong Kong within 60 seconds (in mp3/wav/m4a format within 10MB).
2.      Take one photo at the sound environment. Video is optional.
3.      Fill in the Online Enrollment Form and describe the sound environment.
 
Each entrant can submit only one entry under each theme.
 
 
Submission of Entry: Until 31 Mar 2019 (Sun)
 
Prize: Cash prizes up to HK$10,000
 
Judging Panel: The heavyweight judging panel comprises Mr Wong Kam Sing, GBS, JP, Secretary for the Environment as well as experts and representatives from government departments and professional bodies. Details are on the Competition website.
