Laboratory/Field Acoustic Testing of Building Elements

Jointly Organized by

The Hong Kong Institute of Acoustics, The Hong Kong Institute of Architects, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Speaker : Ir. Dr. FanCHONG of Acoustic Testing Services Limited

Venue : Room CD 307(access from Podium via Core C or Core D),

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hung Hom, Kowloon

Date & Time : 7 August 2013 (Wed), from 6:30 pm to 8:30pm

Programme Highlights:

Ir. Dr.Fan CHONG is currently the Managing Director of Acoustic Testing Services Limited. He obtained his Ph.D. in Acoustics, Noise & Vibration Control from the HKPolyU in Year 2000. He is a specialist and has more than 20years experience in research, development, and implementation of various laboratory/field acoustic testing for building elements in accordance with the relevant international standards.

Laboratory/field acoustic measurements are essential to quantify the acoustic properties of building elements, to compare the acoustic performance from different constructions, to calculate acoustic privacy between rooms in building, and to calculate noise levels from outdoor sources such as road traffic and to provide optimum engineering solutions to noise control problems.

In this seminar, Dr. CHONG will briefly present a wide range of laboratory/field acoustic measurements for quantifying different acoustic properties of building elements (such as airborne sound insulation, sound absorption, impact sound insulation, etc.)and a few new laboratory acoustic tests, such as rain impact test, flanking transmission measurement of facade element and flanking transmission measurement of ceiling &raised floor. The relevant testing procedures and requirements in accordance with the relevant international standards will be covered. The seminar aims at providing engineers and architects an overview of laboratory/field acoustic testing for building elements.

This seminar is a joint function of Hong Kong Institute of Acoustics (HKIOA) and the Hong Kong Institute of Acoustics (HKIA) Board of Local Affairs. 2 hours of CPD credits will be granted to HKIA members attending the seminar.
