Ocean Science and Engineering Faculty Position
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Department of Mechanical Engineering seeks an individual for a tenure-track faculty position in Ocean Science and Engineering to ideally begin July 2019 or on a mutually agreed date thereafter. Appointment will be at the assistant or untenured associate professor level. In special cases, a senior faculty appointment will be considered.
We seek candidates from all areas of the broad and diverse field of Ocean Science and Engineering including but not limited to: energy, robotics, autonomy, system integration, transportation, hydrodynamics, turbulence, naval architecture, structural analysis, materials, sensing, exploration, communications, acoustics, sustainability, food, environmental management, biomimetics, resource harvesting, medicine, security, high performance computation, forecasting, inference, ecosystem dynamics, climate effects, signal processing, and data management.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is committed to fostering interdisciplinary research that can address grand challenges facing our society. We seek candidates who will provide inspiration and leadership in research, contribute proactively to both undergraduate and graduate level teaching in the Mechanical Engineering department and add to the diversity of the academic community.
Faculty duties include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, advising students, conducting original scholarly research and developing course materials at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates must hold an earned Ph.D. in a field related to Ocean Science and Engineering by the beginning of employment.
