It is with a profound sense of humility and immense gratitude that I assume the role of Chairman of the Hong Kong Institute of Acoustics (HKIOA). I would like to begin by expressing my sincere thanks to our outgoing Chairman, Henry Chan, and the entire Executive Committee for their exemplary leadership and tireless dedication over the past two years. Their hard work has laid a robust foundation upon which we will continue to build.
My journey with the HKIOA spans over a decade — a period defined by continuous learning and shared achievements. Having served on the Executive Committee across various portfolios, including the Treasury, Membership, and Activities Committees, I have gained a deep appreciation for the collective effort that drives our success. Key milestones, such as the Acoustic Awards, the Inter-noise conference, the Cross-Strait Conferences, and the establishment of the Qualified Noise Modeller framework, stand as proud testaments to what we can accomplish together. The HKIOA has long been my professional home, and I feel a deep responsibility to step forward and serve.
As we look ahead, my vision is to honor our legacy of excellence while continuing to foster a more dynamic, connected, and widely recognized community of acoustics professionals. During my term, I will focus our efforts on two core priorities:
- Enhancing Member Engagement and Experience: We will prioritize upgrading and streamlining our digital systems to create seamless, automated touchpoints for registration, applications, and event enrollment. A revitalized digital platform will significantly improve accessibility to valuable resources and networking opportunities for all members.
- Elevating Professional Recognition and Development: I am committed to driving high-impact initiatives that celebrate and champion our profession. We will continue to elevate flagship events like the Acoustic Awards to honor outstanding contributions to the field. Furthermore, we are dedicated to improving our professional certificate courses and exploring pathways to welcome a broader range of accredited professionals, thereby strengthening the Institute’s standing and our capacity to advise industry and government partners.
I am confident that, alongside our dedicated and outstanding Executive Committee, and with the support of every member, we will achieve these goals. The HKIOA’s core mission — to promote academic exchange, provide quality training, and offer expert professional advice — remains our guiding light. I am truly excited to give back to the Institute that has given me so much. I look forward to collaborating closely with each of you to write the next successful chapter for the HKIOA.
Thank you for your trust and support.
